The Standard Poodle dog breed originated in either Russia or Germany, and was perfected and popularized in France, where it is known as “Caniche” – derived from the French word for “Duck”.

Known throughout Europe as a retriever of waterfowl, the Standard Poodle makes an excellent family pet and sporting dog. It is closely related to the Portuguese Water Dog and the Irish Water Spaniel.
