How is Puppy Dogs Central Different?

Unlike the growing number of dogs and puppies for sale web sites that are popping up daily on the internet, the staff of Puppy Dogs Central actually screen breeders wishing to advertise on our service to ensure that they meet our own set of guidelines for responsible dog breeders.

In our ongoing effort to help unite responsible dog lovers with caring, reputable dog breeders offering healthy, home-raised dogs and puppies for sale, we've become very concerned about the growing number of puppy mills, puppy brokers, backyard breeders and even scam artists masquerading behind pretty web sites. You may see pictures of adorable dogs and puppies for sale at exorbitant prices, but what you don't see are the deplorable conditions in which the parent dogs are kept, the potential health, temperament and socialization problems that often accompany each puppy, or the potential for heartache and financial burden that goes hand in hand with taking on a puppy that is sick with congenital health problems, Parvo or other health problems that often accompany puppies for sale by this type of dog breeder.

What is a Responsible Dog Breeder?

There are many differing opinions on what makes a responsible dog breeder. At Puppy Dogs Central, in association with Responsible Breeders Showcase, we've come up with our own guidelines for what we feel makes a caring, responsible and reputable dog breeder. Before we allow a dog breeder to advertise their dogs or puppies for sale on our service, they must meet and agree to adhere to the guidelines we have set forth, as follows:

Puppy Dogs Central's Guidelines For Responsible Dog Breeders

1. Breeder offers no more than 3 breeds - preferably only 1 or 2.

2. Purebred puppies for sale are registered with the appropriate breed club.

2a. Breeder DOES NOT place puppies with puppy brokers or pet stores, and takes great care in ensuring that puppies are not placed with buyers who will potentially breed them for profit.

3. Breeder cares about the well-being of their breeding dogs and the puppies they produce. Breeder puts the welfare of their dogs before profit.

4. Breeder provides a safe, happy and healthy home for their dogs and puppies. Breeder does not constantly confine their breeding dogs to cages, and treats their dogs in a humane manner at all times, realizing that dogs are pack animals and thrive on love and companionship.

5. Dog breeder is knowledgeable about their breed(s).

6. Dog breeder ensures that puppies for sale are healthy and well-socialized prior to placement.

7. Dog breeder places puppies at the appropriate level of maturity for their breed - no less than 8 weeks of age, and preferably waits until puppies have reached 12 weeks of age.

8. Breeder screens dogs for any hereditary health problems that are prevalent in their breed and ensures that all breeding dogs are free from these disorders prior to breeding.

9. Dog breeder has puppies for sale vet checked and vaccinated.

10. Breeder requires spay or neuter of  "pet-quality" puppys. (ie puppies not being offered to another responsible breeder as part of their breeding program)

11. Dog breeder offers a reasonable health guarantee, and stands behind it.

12. Dog breeder ensures that puppies are being placed in responsible, forever homes.

13. Dog breeder is dedicated to buyer education and support while adjusting to new puppy.

14. Dog breeder is willing to rehome puppy or assist in finding a suitable new home in the event new owners cannot fulfill their commitment.

15. Dog breeders conduct should be courteous and professional in all dealings with potential buyers, as this is a reflection of our service and impacts the success of all of the members of our service.

16. Dog breeders must be honest and trustworthy in all financial dealings, both with buyers and with our service.
