A Morkie is a small domestic dog. It is a cross between a Maltese and a Yorkshire Terrier, and Morkie is a portmanteau word combining the two breed names of this Designer dog.

Although variations exist, generally the Morkie takes on the appearance of one breed that it hails from. For example, they can have different appearances in one litter, one puppy may be more maltese-like, while a sibling of the puppy may be more yorkie-like in appearance. Usually the Morkie will have a dark appearance from the Yorkie but where the Yorkie is brown/gold, the Morkie will be brown (from the Yorkie).
Morkies can have an array of coloring though however they turn out; they are an attractive pet. Usually, you will know it is a Yorktese or Morkie with the brown fur in its ears and black around him/her and sometimes the morkies can look almost exactly like a Maltese with an all white coat but this is very rare.

One of the advantages to the Morkie is that it is a low to non-shedding dog, but prospective owners should still be aware that the Morkie will need to either have a short haircut or be brushed daily. In addition, it will be important to be sure that the hair around the Morkie’s eyes is kept clean on a regular basis. This will help to ensure that the hair does not build up around the eyes as well as to prevent dirt and debris from building up as well.
Like many small dogs, the Morkie will typically need to have its teeth brushed a couple of times per week to help reduce problems with dental health. Due to the small size of this dog, most owners will find that the Morkie will do better when provided with three small meals per day rather than a single large meal.

No claims of extraordinary health or diseases specific to Morkies have been documented. As the case will all dog hybrids, Morkies inherit any number of combinations of both the physical and behavioral attributes of Maltese and Yorkshire Terrier. When caring for a Morkie, it would be best to read up on both breeds the puppy or dog is descended from, visit the breeder and meet both of the parents, and prepare for all possibilities.
A Morkie that is more Maltese-like in body structure.The health of the Morkie is rather good, although it may suffer from some of the same health issues as a Yorkie or Maltese. These health concerns may include tracheal collapse, cataracts, medial patellar luxation, hydrocephalus, chronic valvular heart disease, kidney failure, and glaucoma. When provided with good care and regular checkups, the Morkie will typically live between 12 and 16 years.
