Over
the past 15 years, the
Chinese Shar-Pei Dog has put a new
wrinkle on dog ownership throughout the world. So rare that this
breed was threatened with extinction in the 1970's, a Hong Kong
Fancier was instrumental in importing this regal, alert and
intelligent medium-sized dog to the US, where breeding programs
were set up and have since increased the breeds numbers to more
than 35,000 in North America alone.
Thinking of adding a
Shar Pei puppy to your family?
Chinese Shar-Pei dogs are not the breed
for everyone. They are intensely loyal and protective of their
home and family, with a natural aloofness towards strangers and
aggressiveness towards other pets (they prefer humans!) A firm
hand and early and consistent obedience training is an absolute
must! In the proper circumstances, the
Shar-Pei dog makes an
excellent loving pet and watch dog. Weekly brushing of it's
short, harsh coat is the only grooming required.
