The national dog of it's native Ireland, the Irish Wolfhound is one the world's tallest breeds, and is legendary in it's abilities as a fearless and ferocious dog in battle, tenacious large game hunter, and trustworthy guardian of the home. The majestic size of these wonderful dogs belies their extremely gentle natures - they love children and are very protective of their owner's home and family. Because of it's size, the Irish Wolfhound needs plenty of room - both inside and out. The rough, double coat requires frequent brushing and occasional trimming to maintain it's unique outline.
