About the Bouvier des Flandres

windlmolen4.jpg (13131 bytes)The Bouvier des Flanders breed originated in France and Belgium. These large, beautiful and highly intelligent dogs were initially used to herd cattle and drive them to market. During the two World Wars, the Bouvier served as an army dog, exhibiting outstanding loyalty and bravery carrying messages under fire and hunting out wounded soldiers. Bouviers were brought to North America in the 1930's, and have proven to be excellent guard dogs and family pets. Bouviers do exceptionally well in most environments - their only requirements are lots of love, daily brushing, some basic grooming and plenty of exercise.
