Azawakh Dog Breed Information Guide

About the Azawakh Dog

kelsimoon1.jpg (8632 bytes)For hundreds of years, the African sighthound known as the Azawakh was the highly treasured companion of nomads of the South Sahara Desert, who valued the dog equally for it's tall, graceful good looks as for it's hunting prowess and loyal companionship. These dogs were introduced to Europe around 1970 and have since become popular world-wide.

Leggy and elegant, the Azawakh is also a loyal, intelligent, gentle and affectionate family companion who can be reserved with strangers. Azawakhs stand from 60 to 74 cm and weigh from 15 to 25 kg.

Their short, soft coat comes in shades ranging from light sable to  fawn, and requires minimal grooming to keep it clean and shiny.

The Akawakh  requires plenty of outdoor exercise to stay healthy and happy, and is best suited to country homes with plenty of room to run.
