Originally from England and Ireland, this happy, outgoing, stable and confident dog combines the best qualities of the Old English Bulldog and one or more game English Terriers. The breed was made popular by the "Our Gang" children's comedies as "Pete the Dog", and is a loyal, hearty companion. American Staffordshire Terriers are strong, muscular, medium-sized dogs that stand about 19 inches at the shoulder and weigh from 45 to 65 pounds. The short, smooth coat requires minimal grooming - a good weekly brushing will easily do the trick. With a strong hand and early and consistent obedience training, the AmStaff makes the ideal family dog. As long as plenty of daily exercise is provided, these wonderful dogs do equally well in large apartments as they do on farms and acreages. |
